Visit to EUROCOPTER in Marseille
26th January: we meet at 2.30 in the morning at the bus stop next to the library as usual. Its cold and were tired after a long month full of exams... but were there anyway. Why? Because EUROAVIA Terrassas 2-day trip to Eurocopter at Marignane is about to begin!
After a night ride on bus we arrived at Eurocopter central facilities at Marignane, where we were welcomed by Ms Viñas and given an introductory speech on the company at François Legrand room.
Just after that we split in 2 groups to visit the Eurocopter Training Center, listening to some presentations and visiting the helicopter mock-ups. Before leaving the ETS, we were introduced to the group of engineers that would share their time with us the rest of the day. They had many different backgrounds and university and working experiences. We were able to have lunch with them and ask them all our doubts in a more relaxed environment.
In the afternoon we visited the Product Center Rotors and Transmissions plus the Starflex production lines and were shown all the process of production. At the same, time the other half of the group was visiting the Final Assembly Lines. We could see helicopters being built at many different stages and we had some explanations on the schedules and organization procedures Eurocopter follows.
After a small break, we went back into the conference room to receive some information on the Bluecopter, which is more than an environmentally friendly helicopter, but a whole new concept in the area.
Finishing our day in Eurocopter, the engineers that had been with us made some personal presentations based on the conversations shared during lunch. Each of them gave us a sentence, a message, to motivate us in either our studies or career path to follow.
After the visit, we moved to our hotel in Marseille were everybody had some free time to visit the city and relax a little bit until we took back our bus after lunch the following day.
