Visit to ESTEC (Noordwijk)

Perfectly coordinated as a Swiss watch, our 2nd professional visit group parted from Barcelona the 9th of February, only a few hours before the 1st one came back. In this case the destination was Amsterdam, the city where the European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is placed. Our enthusiastic Executive Member Aleix Megías organized most of the trip, and I think it’s safe to say that he did a fantastic job!

As the visit was programmed for the 10th, our members had a lot of time to explore the fantastic city of Amsterdam, and they made the most of it: they took a walk around Damm Square and its surroundings, including the frozen canals, they did cultural visits to Van Gogh’s Museum, Rijksmuseum, Anna Frank’s house and Heineken’s Factory (who said that brewing beer isn’t culture?!) and even had time for some partying and enjoying Amsterdam’s dynamic nightlife.

But the best was yet to come, and in this case the best was the ESA’s biggest technical centre. Our members were welcomed by Juan de Dalmau, head of ESTEC Communications, who gave them a wide explanation on how people work at ESTEC and the projects which are being undertaken. Equally interesting was the visit to the SpaceExpo, where our members had the opportunity to explore ESA’s past and current projects and discover many curiosities and interesting facts about space.
